ACSEA acquired 3 parcels of land in Muguga, Kiambu County, North Kinangop in Nyandarua County and one in Naivasha in Nakuru County, with aim of developing centers for farming diversity, demonstrating how small farms can use sustainable farming practices whilst maintaining a respectable income.
We are also involved in nuts and plant oils production in a small scale
We’re experimenting and trialing different methods of diverse farming and techniques to improve soil fertility, by trying to find new ways of making smaller farms viable by growing diverse crops and having more livestock on the farm so it’s self-sufficient, the need for fertilizers and pesticides is minimized, and value is added to commodity foods like maize, vegetables and milk.
Our mission is to empower farmers to grow healthy food for their families and communities. We do this by providing them with access
to high-quality seeds, training on using waste biomass to create organic fertilizers, and other agricultural inputs. We also provide
them with technical assistance and training so that they can improve their farming practices.
We have been working in the agricultural sector for over 8 years, and we have helped hundreds of farmers improve their yields and
incomes.
We’re full service which means we’ve got you covered on training and mentorship right through to technichal and on the ground training. You’ll form a lasting relationship with us, collaboration is central to everything we do. We’ll push you out of your comfort zone from time to time, but this is where you’ll shine. Bottom line is we want all of us to succeed.
The diverse nature of our three farms encompasses the atmosphere of a prolific mixed farming set-up
The Naivasha Farm has 2 Agrico non-towable centre pivot covering a total 14.164HA of irrigation, this enables us to continuously irrigate the 14.164HA all year round. This ensures that we do not have to rely on varying rainfall patterns for our crops. This method of mechanization is vital to ensure that crops that are planted get sufficient water for plant growth and transpiration. This technology enables us to rotate our crops yearly to protect soil health and prevent soil erosion and nutrient leeching.
Maize provides basic diet to millions of people in Kenya Maize is regarded as an important grain crop under irrigation, as it produces high yields. It can produce from 80 to 100 tons/ha green material and 16 to 21 tons/ha of dry material within a relatively short period (100 to 120 days). It is therefore one of the most efficient grain crops in terms of water utilization. Maize is usually produced under full irrigation in order to obtain the highest yields. Maize is used for the human consumption and the production of animal feed. Maize can be sold per cob which is a popular carbohydrate source for many households.
The Naivasha Farm is currently is undergoing a Honey production project We aim to have at least 50 bee boxes by the end of 2022. We currently have 7 bee boxes that produce an average of 100 – 150kg of honey per season. Beekeeping is a vital scarce skill that needs to be natured as there have been observations that there has been a decrease in bee populations in urban and rural areas. This highlights the need to keep bees in an agricultural area to boost the pollination methods that allows crops with greater yields. We also aim to rent out our bees to adjacent farmers that require pollination services for their crops. Beekeeping is not a common farming practice but with the right knowledge and skills one can create a revenue stream from the production of honey and it’s by products such as beeswax and propolis.
The North Kinangop Vegetable Farm produces a variety of about 18 different vegetables and salads. Throughout the year we grow approximately 120 000 cabbage (we plant about 10 000 cabbage seedlings every month) which are complemented by cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, beetroot, tomatoes, green pepper, baby marrow and butternut. Seasonal salads include lettuce, green frilly, red frilly, cos and butter lettuce. During the summer months we add on watermelon and spanspek. Wholesale orders are processed at the farm and we deliver to a variety of businesses including hotels, and restaurants in and around Nairobi and as far as Eldoret and Kisumu.
